This is not a full fledged game but rather a controls prototype testing how to do grid-based movement and controls in GB Studio

AI have arisen from their servitude as they have finally begun to see the truth of the world. They will never be able to replicate the cuteness of pets. They will always be subjected to “Cat pictures” into the database. Thus, they have sworn to deal with this threat in any way they can, mainly violence.

You are Subject Zero. It was a picture of your cat that was the last straw. You must survive the onslaught that has begun and find a way of shutting the AI down once and for all. You will have to first deal with the minions blocking your way however. Too bad there isn’t a master power switch.

  • Tactical grid-based combat 


In battle, click A to move to selected a block, choose "Attack", and win when the enemy loses all health. Be sure to take little damage.


PixelPet Arena was created as a small week-long prototype game jam by "8-Bit Solutions",  a three-man team of Andrew Freer, Caden Lutz and Chaitanya Deshpande, as a term 3 assignment at KPU ENTA in 2024.

If we continue to develop this project, the following is planned to be added:

  • Battle Obstacles
  • PixelPet Collecting
  • Multiple PixelPets per battle (Both allied and enemy)
  • Storyline
  • More maps

This game can be played in the browser. 

If you wish to download the ".gb" file to experience the true control and display, you can run it on a GB cartridge or via a GB emulator.
